The neurointensive care unit is also run by the department of anesthesia .The neurointensive care unit is a composite unit looking after both neurology and neurosurgery patients. It consists of a 12 bedded intensive care unit and a 5 bedded High dependency unit. The unit looks after a wide variety of patients ranging from victims of neurotrauma, stroke patients and postoperative neurosurgical patients among others. In addition the department also takes the responsibility of teaching the nurses and junior doctors and plans to start a certificate course in neurocritical care in the future. The department introduces the recent concepts in neuroanesthesia.
The ITU is under the capable management of senior consultants with their experience of working in various other centres in India ensure that the very best patient care is delivered by the junior doctors under their strict supervision.
