DEPARTMENT OF NEURONURSING
The nurses are one of the largest work forces in NNC. The department’s guiding principle is to maintain a safe and caring environment for patients and delivering quality nursing care of the highest standard with compassion and human touch. Our quality is based on evidence-based practice and effective processes.
To ensure international standard in providing care to the people of Bengal and Eastern India, our dynamic Senior Nurse Advisors Ms.Katie Macfarlane and Ms.Morryn guide and lead our nursing team.
Qualified experienced nurses of various levels are recruited from all over India to ensure we get the best-devoted nurses to serve our patients. We give them 3 months special neuro-intensive training to orient them to our institution standards.
Our Matron and Nurse manager of each unit ensure highest standard of nursing is delivered to all patients. They ensure that procedures and protocols are followed accurately. To achieve this they provide the nurses with positive professional influence, guidance and support.
We take patient satisfaction seriously. We will walk the extra mile to ensure it. We have consistently a good record of patient satisfaction feed back.
We care for our patients with respect given to their religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs. Their dignity and privacy will be maintained at all times. We also understand that it is the crisis period for the family as well. So our concern will extend to family and friends who will be given support during this crisis period
Intensive therapy Unit
Brain injuries and diseases of the nervous system can be disabling and life-threatening. But careful, thorough monitoring and innovative treatment of these problems can help ensure the best possible outcome for the patient. We have a 15-bedded unit that includes the 6-bedded High Dependency Unit. This unit offers advanced monitoring system and treatment for patients with brain injuries and neurological diseases.
In this challenging specialty area, we have good number of well experienced nurses round the clock. They are quite competent to care for neuro patients who are either critically ill or who have just come from brain, spine or peripheral nerve surgery. Their timely care along with the multidisciplinary team of doctors, therapists, and other professionals provides balanced, attentive care in a unique environment to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient.
They carefully and accurately monitor the patient's vital functions, neurological status, hemodyanamic status every hour--or more frequently, if necessary. They focus their attention to note even the minor change in the patients condition. They excel in their skills to handle patients with polytrauma,Medical emergencies and multi-organ support including assisted ventilation.
Patients who have been stabilized and no longer require the intensive care provided in the NNC-ITU can go to a High Dependency Unit, where the level of nursing care still exceeds that is provided in a general inpatient setting.
Operation theatre
The current theatre complex was renovated in 2005 with all technologically advanced equipment required for all major and minor neurosurgical procedures. This includes microsurgery as well. The operation theatre is open round the clock on all days. Operations are performed on an elective and emergency basis.
A highly skilled dedicated team of nursing staff competently assists our highly qualified neurosurgeons. In addition to standard neurosurgical procedures they have epitomized their skills to assist complicated brain tumour surgeries, spinal reconstructive surgeries, awake craniotomy, endovascular surgeries etc.
As the neuro Intensive therapy Unit is just the next-door all the patients after surgery are conveniently moved in for immediate monitoring. The Sterile Supply Unit is functions 24 hours. All theatre sterile equipment and articles are packed and sterilized on site. We conduct periodical survey for quality assurance.
Nazrul ward
We have 42 beds in this unit. This includes A/C double rooms Non A/C single and double rooms. This is the general inpatient setting. Here we admit patients with various kinds of neuromedical and neurosurgical disorders. When ITU patients become stable and fit to be shifted to a general ward, they are transferred here for further care. Her the focus is upon rehabilitation and preparation for discharge. In this unit we have excellent nurses and nursing assistants who deliver appropriate and timely nursing care round the clock.
We appreciate our supportive staff who are an integral part to ensure a safe environment for patients and other staff members.
Continuing Nursing Education
We strongly believe in professional growth and clinical development of nurses. We ensure patient care excellence by its emphasis on continuous educational development that expands nursing knowledge and skill levels and impacts the practice of nursing.
To ensure our nurses have the competencies and skills to provide excellence in care related to recent advances in research, technology and new treatment options, we conduct regular in service educational programs for our nurses.
Our nurses are encouraged to write articles, present papers participate in various seminars and workshops conducted nationwide. We have a library with the good index of books and journals for our nurses to read and keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date. Throughout the year we have Bsc and Diploma nursing students from school of nursing for clinical observation
