The department of neurosurgery is a vibrant and enthusiastic department. The faculty are young but extremely skilful, being trained with the best of neurosurgeons of our times. The faculty work as a department, though individual faculty members are given their individual outpatient days and are allowed to admit patients under their care.

The department works 24 hours, with planned surgeries starting at 9am six days a week in the two dedicated Operating rooms. Admitted cases and emergencies are discussed in the morning meetings, where surgical planning is also done. These meetings are also attended by the Anesthesiologists and the Neurologists. The outpatient starts after ward rounds are completed, and extends until well beyond lunch. Though the official working hours are till 5pm, you can almost always find the members of the department in the hospital, seeing patients, talking to relatives or discussing cases with their juniors.

After office hours are covered by a resident neurosurgical trainee who stays in hospital through the night, and one of the faculty is on call, coming into hospital whenever there is a critical case that requires his opinion and expertise.

The department is recognized for training of doctors towards the National Board of Examinations in Neurosurgery. There are presently three resident trainees who are receiving this training.
